Nothing is worse than waking up on a rainy day and knowing your first class is on the opposite side of campus. Not only is it a pain to carry your book bags along with your i-pod and umbrella, but if you don't have the proper footwear, your feet will be soggy and cold the whole day.
Having the proper footwear will not only keep your feet dry, but they can also prevent the bottom of your pants from getting soaked up to your shins, which no one likes.
The perfect type of footwear for rainy days is an up and coming fashion trend; the rain boot. It comes in all different styles, patterns and prices, and is the perfect solution to a rainy day.
If you are looking for an inexpensive pair of boots, some of the best places to look are Target and Payless. Target.com has an entire section dedicated to rain boots. There are plenty of patterns and styles to choose from and the prices range from $19.99-$22.99.
These boots definitely fit into a college student's budget. Payless has a slightly smaller selection, however the prices only go as high as $29.99, and patterns they have are definitely wearable.
Rachel Tavana, a 4th-semester accounting major, owns a pair of Target rain boots and loves them.
"They are so good to have on a rainy day," she said. "I don't care if I ruin or scuff them because they were so inexpensive."
If you are willing to pay a little more, places like JCrew and DSW are good places to shop. The prices are a little higher, around $50-$80. Both stores have different patterns to choose from-JCrew has more of the classic look, solid colors with minimal designs, while DSW has wild crazy colorful patterns for those with more adventurous taste.
"I love my rain boots, I don't know what I'd do with out them," said Gina Nicotera, a 4th-semester political science major. "They cost about $80 at JCrew but I have definitely gotten my money's worth," she said.
If the price doesn't matter, or if you are willing to splurge on a nice pair of rain boots, than designer boots might be the way to go. Plenty of high-end designers make rain boots that are sure to be worth the price.
"My dad bought me Burberry rain boots from Neiman Marcus," said Rhiannon Kelsh, a 4th-semester chemistry major. "I found them on sale for $160, and he decided to buy them for me since it rains so much down here," she said.
Along with Burberry, designers like Coach and Marc Jacobs also sell rain boots. If you are looking for a deal, try websites such as eBay to see if you can get a cheaper price. Also, department stores such as Macys and Nordstrom may have sales that you wouldn't find online or in the stores of the designers.
No matter what style you like best, or how much money you are willing to spend, rain boots are a good investment for all the rainy days we have here at UConn. So the next time your picking something up at target, or strolling down Fifth Avenue in New York City, stop by the shoe department and see if there's a pair that will work for you.
