Actor Dustin Diamond, mostly known for his role as "Screech" on "Saved By The Bell," cancelled his scheduled appearance at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday.

Diamond was supposed to catch a plane from Los Angeles to Connecticut to appear at 8 p.m. at the Jorgensen Center for the performing arts. A meet-and-greet session with students and fans was also scheduled for after Diamond's performance.

After a series of phone calls to Diamond's manager and agent, "We found out that he never got on the plane," said Student Union Board of Governers lecture chair Brian Carabello.

"About an hour and half ago we called it quits," Carabello said.

Students who braved the cold and walked to Jorgensen looking for a few laughs from "Screech" were not greeted by lines of fans waiting to enter, but rather posters notifying people of the cancellation. SUBOG members stood in the cold and informed fans of the incident.

"I am sad that I did not get to see Samuel "Screech" Powers, but I am ok because it's Nickel Night," said Erin Andersen, 8th-semester coaching and administration major.

Andersen and other students found alternate activities quickly. The Student Union South Lobby was filled with students who decided to resort to Plan B. Most students hiding from the cold decided to see "Borat," the Thursday night movie, and visit the food court for alternative entertainment.

"I'm not even that upset," said a student who was turned away by SUBOG members.

Jorgensen will be refunding ticket costs. For those who purchased their tickets with cash or check, a check will be issued. Credit cards and HuskyBucks will be credited, according to Carabello.

Since Diamond breached his contract, he will not be receiving payment. SUBOG did however, lose a lot of money on advertisement, Carabello said.

"I am disappointed," said Carlton Jones, SUBOG Comedy Chair. "We will not bring him back to campus."

Diamond's careless attitude toward authority was displayed during his appearance on the "Celebrity Fit Club," a television show featuring celebrities looking to get into shape.

The sitcom star-turned-bankrupt porn star reportedly got into a dispute with American Idol Kimberly Locke.

Diamond recently received media buzz from a leaked 40-minute sex-tape featuring him and two other women, according to the New York Daily News.

According to imdb.com, Diamond is reportedly only still in contact with Dennis Haskins (Mr. Belding) out of the entire "Saved By The Bell" cast,

Diamond's college comedy tour appears to be an effort to roll in some dough. He recently attempted to sell T-shirts in an effort to save his house, which was purchased under contract. Shirts cost $15 and are available at getdshirts.com.
