The harmonizing sounds of a cappella groups filled the Student Union Theatre Wednesday evening.

Jingle Jam, sponsored by SUBOG, brought together UConn a cappella organizations. The event included guests Blue Jupiter, a foursome from New York that recently found radio jingle success. Blue Jupiter entered an Oreo Cookie contest and was chosen out of thousands of musical groups to sing the "Oreo Milk and Cookie Jingle," by American Idol judge Randy Jackson. Due to the group's cookie success, Jingle Jam goers were given Oreo snack packages to munch on during the show.

Blue Jupiter got the event going with their rendition of the popular tune, "Life is a Highway," and the Beatles hit "I feel fine."

The first UConn a cappella group to hit the stage was the co-ed group Extreme Measures. They performed their own medley of songs including Five for Fighting's "Riddle."

"I was really impressed," said Colleen O'Day in response to Extreme Measures performance, which she really enjoyed.

The group A Minor used the audience as "guinea pigs" as they tested out their new assortment of songs, including a spin on the Carole King hit "I Feel the Earth move" with a male leading vocalist.

In between UConn groups, Blue Jupiter came out on stage. The singers performed songs such as Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," the King's "Can't Help Falling in Love" and many more.

A Completely Different Note (CDN) took the stage next. The all male, clean cut group performed the Frank Sinatra song "I Get a Kick Out of You," and the Steve Miller Band's (or Seal's, whichever you prefer) "Fly Like An Eagle."

Blue Jupiter's beat boxer came out after CDN sang and awed the crowd with his abilities.

"This is the coolest guy in the world," said Valerie Licata, a 7th-semester human development and family studies major.

The next group to perform was the female ensemble, The Chordials. The girls performed an array of popular songs such as Natalie Merchant's "Wonder" and Rusted Root's "On my Way."

Last but not least came Shir Modulation. The co-ed group started out with the Beatles's "Blackbird" and ended with a different take on the Star Wars theme song.

Stephanie Dolph, a 1st-semester exploratory major, attended her first a cappella concert Wednesday night. "I would have never come if I wasn't on SUBOG. I've been enlightened on the shows; I'll have to come to more."
