Every week, I ask my girlfriend Karen what I should focus this week's column on, and while she often does her best to keep up with my ever-evolving taste in music, her first response is always, "Me!" Well, this week, she's finally going to get her wish, as I would like to dedicate this column to my wonderful girlfriend - I love you.

Yeah, Valentine's Day was two months ago - whatever, this is my column. For those looking for a dose of great, modern love songs (and I don't mean those sappy radio tunes), here's what's playing in my iTunes. Sometimes love is all you need.

"Live Forever (Fly With Me)" by Gym Class Heroes - Off of their most progressive album to date, "The Quilt," Gym Class Heroes team up with Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates fame for this sweet and sincere seven-minute epic. Frontman Travis McCoy goes through all the motions (thinking of her when he sees other couples, not being able to imagine her with other men) before finally being calmed by the love of his life with a kiss on the cheek.

Key Lyric: "I told her about the couple that I saw earlier / She said, 'I'm sure they were cute but they're no you and I.'"

"Who'd Have Known" by Lily Allen - This song is nothing short of lovely. Allen is known for her sass and sarcasm so this little number comes off as a surprise as she recounts a new and growing romance. You can really feel the emotion and excitement of this new love in her voice.

Key Lyric: There's just the right amount of awkward / And today you accidentally / Called me baby."

"Hard To Concentrate" by Red Hot Chili Peppers - Anthony Kiedis has an awesome voice, especially when he slows it down to a croon as opposed to his energetic bark. Now, I've never heard a RHCP song like this, and the sincere self-sacrifice in the lyrics makes it all the more memorable.

Key Lyric: "All I want is for you to be happy / And take this moment to make you my family."

"Dear Bobbie" by Yellowcard - A quaint acoustic track that kicks off with a recording of singer Ryan Key's grandfather reading a letter to his grandmother reminiscing about when they first began courting more than 60 years ago. It's a really touching song that is only made better by how real it all it is.

Key Lyric: "When I lay tonight / When I close my eyes / I know the sun will rise / Here or the next life / As long as you're still mine / Then it's all right."
