EA Sports visited the UConn campus to give students the opportunity to participate an Xbox 360 "NCAA Football 09" tournament Friday afternoon on Fairfield Way. Coca-Cola was there to promote their "Coke Zero" product, providing free samples to those college students brave enough to compete.
Under a tent housing 20 flatscreen televisions provided by Sharp, optimistic students competed against each other in "NCAA Football 09" for the ultimate prize - an all-expenses paid trip for the winner and a guest to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl.
The two winners from UConn would be considered the school's official representatives in the national tournament, competing against students from 15 other schools from across the country.
In this national tournament, the ultimate champion is awarded $10,000.
In the tournament that took place at UConn, there were a total of 128 competitor slots. Many students stood waiting for their chance at playing as their favorite NCAA football team.
"I'm going to win," said Eric Archambault, a 5th-semester history education major. "The [$10,000] definitely sounds better than nothing to me."
This year's edition of "NCAA Football" includes an array of new features, including a "Mascot Match" where the mascots of the league compete against each other. The game was released last summer.
