Students find out what different activities SUBOG plans and how they can become part of one or more of up to 11 different committees.

On Sept. 10 the Student Union Board of Governors hosted a committee fair from 4-5 p.m. at the Student Union to inform students at UConn about SUBOG and its purpose. Students came with questions and learned about the different committees that they could be involved in. SUBOG is a student-run organization on campus that puts on events such as Homecoming, Late Night and Husky Roadshows, to name a few.

Kristen Baer, a 7th semester psychology and communications double major and also the Vice President for Outreach stressed that the mission of SUBOG is to "try and make the Student Union a more exciting facility on campus so students could get involved and have fun."

The committees mentioned at the fair included comedy, daytime, special events, lectures, major weekends, public relations, concerts, travel, sports promotion and marketing and advertising. Each of the committees was briefly represented so students could have an idea about which group they would be interested in joining.

Sarah Helfrich, a 5th-semester communications major, spoke about the major weekends committee. According to Helfrich, "the major weekends committee is in charge of putting on the major events that go on campus such as Homecoming and Senior Week."

Another committee that was spoken about at the fair was the concert committee, which is in charge of bringing musicians to perform on campus. Previous performers include Red Man and The All-American Rejects.

"I am a huge fan of music and so I joined the concert committee today. I also want to promote some new bands from my hometown," says Stephany Lopez, a 1st-semester animal science major.
