It's that time of year again, a time when an obligation to TV may triumph over homework and other school-related activities: fall premiere time. Set up the DVRs and get caught up with what's coming up in the 2009-2010 season, with a look at each night's most anticipated shows premiering this week:
Monday TV's favorite drug-addicted doctor returns at 8 p.m. on Fox for the two-hour season six premiere of "House." Last season ended with House descending into madness, trying to cure himself of his addiction to Vicodin and finally checking himself into a mental ward. The coming season promises twists as fans wonder whether Dr. House will survive the madhouse.
Tuesday CBS's popular "NCIS" will premiere at 8 p.m. The season six finale of "NCIS" left fans grappling with a lot of questions, but season seven is set up for answers. The finale left off when the character Ziva was tortured and left for dead. According to executive producer Shane Brennan on BuddyTV.com, Ziva will be back for season seven, and her relationship with the character Tony will "evolve rapidly," something fans have been anticipating.
Wednesday The sixth season of another highly anticipated CBS show, "CSI: NY" will premiere at 10 p.m. According to the official Web site of Associated Content, season five's finale had fans fearing for the life of a main character after promos for the episode promised the death of one of Mac's team members. The episode ended with the team meeting at a bar for a tribute to the character Jess, interrupted by gunfire right before the screen went black and the episode ended. Fans have to wait for this season's premiere to find out exactly who died, and what's in store for the rest of the team. Thursday The two-hour premiere of the sixth season of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," airing at 9 p.m., promises to be a doozy. Last season ended with the character Izzie, played by Katherine Heigl, going into cancer-related cardiac arrest and George, played by T.R. Knight, suffering traumatic injuries after being hit by a bus, respectively. Knight has decided to leave the show, according to Grey'sAnatomyNews.com, so the future looks bleak for George. Katherine Heigl will be taking a "long leave of absence," so Izzie's fate, too, is undetermined. Fans will have to tune in Thursday to find out how much of the cast will be left this season.
Friday For those who stay in on Friday nights, the season six premiere of CBS's "Medium" will air at 9 p.m. The cast will be dealing with the aftermath of the main character Allison's brain surgery. It remains to be determined whether or not Allison's psychic gift that allows her mind to tap into crimes and therefore help solve them - the premise of the show - will be affected by her surgery.
Saturday "Saturday Night Live" will premiere its 35th season at 11:30 p.m. According to Life & Style magazine, "Transformers" star Megan Fox is set to host, while Rolling Stone reports that U2 will be the musical guest performance.
Sunday Season six of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" will premiere at 9 p.m. Last season left off with the psychotic character Dave setting out to kill characters Susan, Mike and their son MJ, in an attempt to avenge his own family's death. He didn't succeed and ended up in a mental ward. Meanwhile, Mike and Susan, who ended their marriage in the previous season, realized they still had feelings for each other, but Mike is dating Katherine. The finale ended with Mike's wedding, but his bride - Susan or Katherine - was not revealed.
