UConn will be looking to continue its bounce-back effort today after an awful showing at home over Spring Weekend in which the team went winless against Big East rival St. John's.
The Huskies (23-20) started to regroup yesterday, notching a 6-4 victory at Northeastern. They'll travel to Bryant today to take on the Bulldogs (26-17) - a club in the midst of a very successful first season in Division I competition. The first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Bryant Baseball Complex.
The pitching staff has been a strength for UConn all season, and prior to last weekend's disastrous sweep at the hands of St. John's, the Huskies' collective ERA ranked second in the conference and 32nd nationally. Freshman reliever Scott Oberg has dazzled out of the bullpen, posting a team-low 1.76 ERA in 11 appearances thus far in 2009.
Yesterday's win came at the start of a six-game road trip over a seven-day span for the Huskies. Freshman slugger George Springer, who leads the team in homeruns (11) and RBI (42) scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth after the team entered the final frame locked in a 4-4 deadlock.
The Bulldogs have struggled of late, losing eight of their last 10 games.
