The golf team will be in action this weekend at the Yale Men's Spring Open. The tournament will be the third of the spring season and take place at the Yale University Golf Course in New Haven.
The Yale golf course was created in 1924 and is a par-70, 6,748-yard course. It is considered one of the best examples of an early American golf course in the country and has deeply-bunkered greens and narrow fairways, which forces players to be extremely accurate off the tee or face approach shots from the rough. Golf Magazine ranked it 71st out of 100 as one of the most difficult courses in the world in 1988.
The signature hole of the course is the par-3 9th hole that is 235 yards long. The hole requires a 190-yard shot off the tee to carry over the water, and the green has an eight-foot drop off from back to front. It is ranked in the top 100 of the most difficult holes to play in the country.
