Currently sitting in eigth place in the Big East, the UConn volleyball team hits the road this weekend with two conference games - one against Rutgers on Friday night and the other against Seton Hall on Saturday.
"This weekend was a tough weekend for us," junior Luarne Lamberti said. "But we can't let those losses affect this weekend, so we will be focusing on ways to beat Seton Hall and Rutgers, because every team is different in their playing tendencies. We will be working on reconnecting as a team, and working on fixing any technical error in our own game."
Coming off of two home losses this past weekend, the Huskies are trying to gain some wins to receive good placing in the Big East tournament.
"In order to establish a good seed in the Big East tourney we will need to win the rest of our matches and in the least amount of games possible," said senior Devon Farrell.
The Huskies are currently 12-14 overall and are even in the conference at 5-5.
The Scarlet Knights are 9-16 overall with a 3-7 Big East record. Junior outside hitter Caitlin Saxton was named as part of the Big East Honor Roll this week after recording a match high in kills in both Big East contests this past weekend. Saxton leads the Rutgers team in kills with 319 this season and currently ranks eighth in the conference in kills per set with a 3.51 average. As the Rutgers co-captain, Saxton averages 3.81 points per set average, ranking ninth in the Big East.
The Pirates sit one match behind the Huskies for the final Big East championship spot. They will honor their three seniors, Melissa Bellomy, Stacey Craighead and Allie Matters, during Saturday's game at 2 p.m. Matters recently broke the career dig mark for Seton Hall with 1,828. The Pirates are 10-15 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
Junior Rebecca Murray leads a balanced offensive attack, averaging 2.57 kills per set for the Huskies while senior Jessica Isaac is one of the top defensive players in the conference, recording 4.11 digs per set. Senior Chauntay Mickens has led the team in kills in two of the last three matches and has led the team in six matches this season.
"All the teams in the Big East are very strong this year, so the next four matches will be equally challenging," said Farrell.
