The UConn's Division of Athletics, along with its multi-media partner IMG College, will install new scoreboards and video boards in Gampel Pavilion For the 2009-10 men's and women's basketball seasons.
The new scoreboards and video boards are scheduled to replace the current boards by early October. The current boards were installed in 2000.
The entire scoreboard installation project is being coordinated and managed by TS Sports, an LED installation and integration company. In early August, TS Sports was contracted to install the scoring and information systems at the American Airlines Arena, home to the NBA's Dallas Mavericks.
TS Sports is a Texas based company founded in 1997 that works with its Hong Kong affiliate, Lighthouse Technologies Limited, to produce the video boards.
"It has been a pleasure working with American Airlines Center on devising the right LED display solution for their needs," said Ed Whitaker, director of sales at Lighthouse. "Our experience and expertise has helped us become the leading provider of LED screens in the US sports market."
Lighthouse Technologies will also manufacture the state-of-the-art video boards for Gampel. They are expected to be approximately 12.5-by-23 feet each and will be more than two times the size of the current boards. Each video board contains more than 270,000 total pixels, which will enhance the overall picture resolution.
In addition to the main scoring and video board displays, there will be additional statistical information display boards to show individual and team statistics throughout the game.
New message boards will also be installed in each of Gampel's four corners, located just above the concourse. These displays will be approximately 7x20 feet and will provide new locations to display information to fans.
"We are pleased to introduce these new technologies in Gampel Pavilion to enhance the game day experience for our dedicated fans," said Jeffrey Hathaway, UConn's Director of Athletics.
"Our partnership with IMG College has provided us the opportunity to bring these exciting enhancements to our on-campus basketball venue. The new scoreboards represent another way that we can thank our loyal UConn ticket holders who regularly come to our facilities."
In addition to the new equipment in Gampel Pavilion, new baseball and softball scoreboards will be installed for the coming spring through the UConn and IMG partnership.
