Top Performer: Drew Brees (Sun)
Drew Brees showed why he deserves to be in the conversation for best quarterback in the league on Sunday. Going up against the top ranked defense in the National Football League, Brees threw for 369 yards and four touchdowns. If the Saints continue to play at such a high level, Brees is going to get serious consideration for the Most Valuable Player award.
Game of the Weekend: Yankees 4-3 win over the Angels (Sat.)
The Yankees continued their clutch hitting in the playoffs to beat the Angels in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series. Joe Saunders displayed great control in a very well pitched game for the Angels, holding the Yankees lineup to two runs over seven innings. A.J. Burnett pitched a very good game as well, holding the Angels lineup to two runs over 6.1 innings. Both teams were held scoreless from the fifth inning up until the 11th, when the Angels took the lead in the top of the inning with an RBI single from Chone Figgins. With closer Brian Fuentes on the mound, Alex Rodriguez tied up the game in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run. Jerry Hairston Jr. scored in the bottom of the 13th inning to win the game on a throwing error by second baseman Maicer Izturis. The win put the Yankees ahead of the Angels 2-0. The two teams will play Game 3 tonight in Los Angeles.
Big Letdown: Giants Defense (Sun.)
Somebody must have forgotten to tell the Giants' defense that they had a game against the Saints, because they did not show up on Sunday. Ranked first in the league going into Sunday's matchup with the Saints, the defense let up a season high 483 yards. The front four did not get any penetration to pressure Drew Brees, allowing him to pick apart a depleted Giants secondary.
