The Huskies only have one Big East win this season, and they are 1-3 overall in conference play this season. In spring matches, UConn is 5-5 but has become hot of late, winning five of their last six matches. That said, the Huskies' annual goal of making the Big East tournament is still well within reach. Coach Marshall and UConn will try to take a step toward reaching that goal in a mid-week match at St. John's at 3 p.m.
The Red Storm are 3-7 on the season with a 2-1 Big East record. Coincidentally, St. John's beat Georgetown 5-2 at home in their last match, as did UConn. Other results for the Red Storm include a 7-0 win vs. Villanova and a 5-2 loss at Pittsburgh.
Last season, the Huskies lost a close 4-3 match at home to St. John's. UConn will look to their senior captain BreAnn Cheung to lead them today. The Big East Player of the Week has won five out of her last six singles matches.
There are also several players on the roster from the New York area. Junior Allison Campitiello is from Staten Island, and she will look to rebound in her home city after a three-set singles loss vs. Georgetown. Kelley LoRusso and Jennifer Marotta also return to their home state. LoRusso will try to start a singles winning streak after a victory last weekend.
UConn would like to start a tough stretch with a road win vs. the Red Storm, and then look to the weekend with home matches against Seton Hall and Cincinnati.
