The women's tennis team ends their season with the Northeastern Regionals to be played at the Yale tennis courts in New Haven, Conn. starting on Thursday. This is a qualifying tournament, meaning that players only get in based on how well they have performed throughout the season. The best players of some 40 teams from throughout the northeastern region will be competing including several schools from the Big East, some of whom the Huskies can expect to see during their conference schedule.

This year, the Huskies are sending their top four singles players and their top two doubles teams. Senior captain Kelley LoRusso automatically gained entry into the main draw of the singles tournament. Junior Emily Herb, senior captain Alison Campitello, and freshman Lauren Wilmarth will be representing the Huskies in the qualifying draw of singles play. In doubles, the team of LoRusso and Campitello and the team of Herb and Wilmarth represent the Huskies. Both automatically qualified for the main draw.

The Huskies are sending many more players to this year's tournament than usual. Typically, the team only sends one or two singles players and one doubles team. The coaching staff is very excited about how well the team is looking and happy about the improved team performance.

"This year, we've done very well. We've solidified our depth, which had been an issue in years past. Now we have quality players throughout our lineup and it'll be nice to see where they compare with the best in the region," coach Glenn Marshall said.

The players also look forward to this tournament as and an opportunity to see where they rank against some of the top competition. Campitello, who has been to the Northeastern Regionals before, loves the challenge and looks forward to playing some quality matches against good players.

"It's a tournament that's going to feature a lot of good players and there is some good competition to face. It's a good chance for us to see where we rank against some of the best in the region," Campitello said.

Overall, it's been a good fall season for the Huskies. They finished with a 2-2 record in match play and in tournaments they've had a couple of very good showings and a few players came away with overall victories in their flights.

The Huskies have shined in the lower part of the singles flights. At the 4th, 5th, and 6th positions, it has been a common sight to see a Husky (more than likely a freshman) come away with a rather dominating victory. In the fall season, twelve matches were played by Huskies from 4th through 6th singles positions. Their record is a stellar 11-1. In two of those team vs. team matchups, opponents were combined held to only three games in three best-of-three set matches.

"We've all done well, especially our freshmen, who played well and got great results for us. Thing are looking good moving forward," senior captain LoRusso said.
