The UConn volleyball team (10-9) takes on Syracuse and Marquette this weekend at Gampel Pavilion to continue Big East play.
With wins against Georgetown, South Florida and DePaul, the Huskies are on a three-game winning streak. This is the best Big East start the Huskies have had since Holly Strauss-O'Brien took over the program in 2005. While taking on the Hoyas, junior Rebecca Murray had a match-high seven kills and team-best four blocks. At South Florida, UConn rallied from a two-set deficit to capture the victory. With 19 digs, Freshman Mattison Quayle recorded her third double digits dig total of the season.
"Our main focus last weekend was to display a lot of emotion and build off that to gain momentum," said sophomore Jordan Kirk. "It worked really well and we're hoping to carry that over into our next two matches."
The Huskies face Marquette Friday at 7 p.m. and close the weekend against Syracuse at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Marquette is 1-3 in Big East play and 11-7 overall. They head into the matchup coming off of a 3-0 rout over Rutgers, their first Big East win of the season.
The Orange have had a successful season thus far, they come to Storrs 3-1 in conference play and 14-5 overall.
"The Syracuse game means a lot to us," Kirk said. "We lost to them last year in their gym and this year we're hoping to beat them in ours. In addition, they're school rivals so it will be fun if we can win that match."
Murray earned a spot on the Big East honor roll for her performance at Georgetown on Sunday, Oct. 4. This is the first time she has been honored since her freshman season and the second consecutive week that the Huskies have earned recognition from the conference after Mattison Quayle received Freshman of the Week award for Sept. 28.
"This weekend we're really focusing on working together and fighting as a team," senior Jessica Isaac said.
The Huskies are 3-1 in Conference play.
