The two UConn administrators charged with larceny pleaded innocent in Rockville Superior Court Friday after being accused of improperly collecting rent from international students.

Robert Carley, director of operations at the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) on the Depot Campus, and Shili Liu, the lab director, were arrested on Dec. 17, 2002 on charges that they collected more than $62,000 from international scholars as rent for housing in university-owned property.

Police discovered the money in a cabinet in Liu's office in December.

Both men have been placed on administrative leave, according to Karen Grava, university spokeswoman.

Liu and Shili are due back in court on Feb. 28 for a pre-trial hearing.
