Col. Lawrence Wilkerson - the former chief of staff to former Secretary of State Colin Powell - will be speaking at the Dodd Center's Konover Auditorium today at 4 p.m.

Students are urged to attend the lecture, which will be followed by a question and answer session.

Wilkerson is a retired army colonel, and was by Powell's side from the Reagan administration to the end of George W. Bush's first term, according to a news release.

He has witnessed the United States go through two Iraq wars, and was an outspoken opponent of the second Iraq war as well as the second Bush administration, according to the release.

Wilkerson left government service in 2005, and is not shy to speak about his experiences and disagreements with the administration, such as going to war based on false information and torturing detainees in overseas prisons, the release said.

He will be talking about these and other topics relating to his career in politics, as well as his take on the current administration and the state of national security.

The event is being organized by the International Relations Association.
