The Fall Career Fair will be held this Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Gampel Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Nancy Bilmes, the associate director for Career Services, said students should find out what companies will be there and pick a few they want to visit first.

She also said that students should research the companies they are interested in.

"They want to see those students have done that research," Bilmes said.

She said that companies do not want to be asked basic questions about what the company does.

According to the Career Services Web site, "You don't have to memorize quarterly financial statements, but have a general idea of what the company does, what the products and services are, and how you are a match for this company."

"The more you know, the more seriously you will be taken as a candidate."

The full list of companies at the Career Fair can be found on the Career Services Web site.

Some of those companies include Abercrombie & Fitch Co., Achieve Beyond, Aetna, Amica, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), General Electric, Internal Revenue Service, Quest Diagnostics, Travelers, Wells Fargo Financial, and Yale University.

The Career Services Web site also has a list of tips for students to get the most out of the event.

Some include dressing up, bringing multiple copies of your resume, being enthusiastic when talking to recruiters and figuring out how you fit the company, not how the company fits you.

Think the Career Fair is just for juniors, seniors, and UConn alumni?

Freshman and sophomores are welcome to walk around and get a feel for what the job market is like, too.

"It's really just a starting place for students to get in contact with employers," said Blimes. "It's a great way to see what organizations are coming to campus."

There is a wide range of positions available at these companies, from internships to experienced full-time, in-state or out-of-state opprotunities.

The Career Services Web site shows specifically what each company is looking for.

Kirsten Erikson, a 3rd-semester communication disorders major, is planning to attend the Career Fair.

"I just want to walk around and see what's there. I want to see what options are open," Erikson said. "I'll probably look at the Career Services Web site before just to see who I can talk to."
