Freshman basketball player Rashad Anderson was arrested on Sept. 16, 2002. He was arrested for threatening and breach of peace. The police report stated there was a complaint of a person hiding in the woods near the Hilltop dormitories dressed in black and wearing a mask. The report also stated the person was scaring pedestrians.

Officers, who arrived on scene, found Anderson hiding in the woods wearing a blue jump suit, mask and he was holding what appeared to be a bloody knife. The knife was a 14-inch plastic knife with fake blood on it.

Anderson had no comment.

Karen Grava, manager of media communications, issued a statement on behalf of the university.

"The Division of Athletes has a policy of not commenting on student athletes," she said.

Candace Forte, a 5th-semester biology major, said she was present when Anderson was arrested.

She said he was wearing a mask and had a knife that was obviously fake.

Forte also said it was not a dangerous situation and Anderson was jumping in to a well-lit area. She also said he would apologize to the people he scared and take off the mask.

"He did it to me and I just laughed," she said.

Forte said she felt the fake knife was a bit much.

"I don't think he should have had a knife, it was a step too far," she said.

Anderson's bail was $2,000 and a court date has been set for Oct. 1.
