UConn Police questioned three students from St. Bonaventure University this past week about their possible involvement in the Jan. 20 hit-and-run accident, which killed 19-year-old freshman Carlee Wines, St. Bonaventure officials said Thursday.
St. Bonaventure President Sister Margaret Carney released a press statement Thursday morning, which announced that UConn Police had questioned three male students - two freshmen and one sophomore about the North Eagleville Road incident.
One of the freshmen - the alleged driver - has since withdrawn from St. Bonaventure, according to The Hartford Courant.
Given the pending investigation, UConn Police Department Major Ronald Blicher said he could not confirm that the students had in fact been questioned, according to The Hartford Courant.
According to Channel 3 CBS News, the three students were questioned the same day police impounded a gray 2004 Nissan Armada, with right front-end damage consistent to the police description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
St. Bonaventure is a private Franciscan university located in southwestern New York state and has a total undergraduate enrollment of 2,200, according to its Web site.
UConn officials said the university will host some sort of memorial in Wines' memory. It has been delayed since her parents have expressed a desire to be involved in planning the memorial.
