Nobody electrified Goal Patrollers like O'Brian White. And it's hard to imagine anyone coming close in the Jamaican-born Hermann Trophy winner's wake.

But when the Huskies take to Morrone Stadium with national title aspirations sophomore midfielder Tony Cascio will try his best to make the spirited student section in Storrs forget about the void left by one of the most prolific scorers in program history.

I'll never forget one of the first times I watched Scottie Haralson play. It was November 28, 2008 and the Huskies were playing Bryant University at the XL Center.

The game was a blowout and, with only a few minutes left in the second half, coach Jim Calhoun started putting in the reserves.

The 2008-2009 NBA season is coming to a close, which means it's time for the first-ever Goldies, my personal awards for the association.

Before we get to the hardware, I want to share a thought. The NBA's talent is as high as it has ever been with quality players spread across the country, but it seems as though the NBA only wants you to know about Kobe and Lebron.

Ten years ago UConn football was a Division I-AA team, fighting for position in the now defunct A10 against the likes of Rhode Island, UMass and New Hampshire. The team that will take the field Sept. 12 for the Huskies home opener against North Carolina is virtually indistinguishable from their predecessors a decade ago.

For those of us lucky enough to have witnessed the past year in UConn sports, we may have seen one of the most successful in school years history - which saw dual national championships in basketball as well as the first bowl ever for the football team.

2004 was impressive, but the 2008-2009 years surpassed it in the time after the teams finished playing.

It's a pretty easy recipe to follow.

Take one late-blooming slugger who is putting up the best statistics of his career at age 37. Add a blogger who is determined to figure out where such a jump in production could come from. Mix in a little speculation over whether performance-enhancing drugs could have been involved and - voila! - you have instant controversy.

The celebrity world never ceases to amaze me.
The biggest highlight in celeb gossip news since many of the Storrs undergraduate community left the bustling campus involves everyone's favorite "Speidi" duo: Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. Now, I'm under the impression that the only reason celebrities do "challenge-esque" shows (think: "Real World Road Rules Challenge") is for some extra cash and Speidi may be a little desperate with their latest attempt on "I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!" The couple traveled to the show's production site in Costa Rica and, attention deprived, spent a night in the show's "Lost Chamber.

Brewers love seasons. They're a great excuse to make new seasonal beers, which I have to admit often look very enticing. Seasons can conjure up sentimental memories for us: a wonderful fall day raking leaves or a wintry afternoon spent building a snowman before going inside to have hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire.

The summer blockbuster: 21st century edition

During the summer months, a few simple pleasures might fill the summer days: sun, surf and of course, the occasional mindless summer blockbuster. As the first decade of this new century comes to an end, we should take a look back at the films that have filled our summer days and nights for the past nine years.

What's not to like about Mos Def?
A thought-provoking MC on the mic and a proven actor on the big screen, the Grammy-nominated rapper has returned big in 2009 with his fourth solo record, "The Ecstatic," and shows that 2006's "True Magic" was a fluke - Flaco Bey still has it.
