As the saying goes, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Though we’re facing harsh weather as we return to UConn from a sun-filled break, we can look forward to the return of sunny days and, better yet, fun spring fashions. Here is a list of the top trends to look forward to this season.
Neutrals/Pastels: Though neutral and pastel colors are a little on the subdued side, these passive colors are the very essence of elegance and femininity, perfect for those who want to feel a little more girly. Speaking of girly, the popular tone of the spring is pink, so expect this blushing color to be everywhere, especially in accessories like hand bags and jewelry.
Peek-a-boo!: Sometimes less is more and in the case of fashion trends this spring, skin has never been more in. From cut-outs to mesh and lace to sexy slits, designers this spring use fun techniques to create unique and exciting looks that reveal a little skin in a whole new way.
Feathers: Feathers, feathers everywhere! From complete dresses to skirts, feathers are just one of the many “decadence” trends to spring out this season. Feathers are a fun way to stand out from the rest of the crowd with a sense of elegance and fun. A wide variety of textures and colors will be available this season.
Back to school: Though we are nearing the end of the school year, the school day look is back with a bang this spring. From blazers to knee socks and even gym apparel, the preppy schoolgirl look is here to stay.
Metallics: All that glitters is gold, especially when it comes to spring fashion. Metallics are popping in skirts, pants, blouses, dresses and accessories from the smallest sequin details to full-on shine ensembles, reminding us that even though it’s recession time, ladies can still shine without breaking the bank.
Leisure suits: The masculine elements make for an interesting look that was red hot in the fall and shows no signs of falling out of favor this spring. Unlike the fall, this season’s look is a more casual look but no less elegant, with airy blouses, loose jackets and pants.
Tie Dye: Forget the homemade hippie tie dye shirts you make at home, this spring is bringing tie dye into a fresh, more sophisticated light in glamorous duds like cocktail dresses, shirts and scarves.
Multi-print dresses: From floral to watercolor to tribal, prints are everywhere this spring. However, while some people may have a hard time matching different patterns together to create a good look, it’s done for you this spring with dresses, shirts and skirts with different prints mix and matched together already. If you want to rock a bold pattern combination look, remember you have to work it with confidence and poise.
Polka Dots: Completing the many print trends to pop up this spring, this old school look is coming back in a big way. From small to large dots to a range of color combinations and even textured dot looks, polka dots are a fun and funky way to wear patterns this spring in apparel like dresses, shirts and skirts.
