This Friday night, Pub 32 will be hosting one of the most original bands to graduate from UConn in the past few years, Grinning Dog.
Pub 32, one of only a few venues for live music close to campus, has hosted the band before and has received positive responses. So positive, in fact, that Pub 32 has scheduled Grinning Dog to play by itself from 9:30 until 12:30. According to bassist Andy Siegel, “It’s a raw dog night.”
Be warned, Grinning Dog is not a typical rock band singing love songs or trying to take down “the man.” They are a progressive/psychedelic rock band born right here in Storrs and take a more inorganic approach to music, focusing more on instrument achievement rather than lyrical verbosity.
The three-man power band, made up of Skyler Calibey, Andy Siegel and Rob Strauss, graduated from UConn in 2013 and has performed around Connecticut – including UConnapalooza 2013 – Rhode Island and New York in the past year establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with.
Still, they have not forgotten their time spent at UConn and extend their gratitude to Pub 32 for asking them back to play.
Pub 32 itself is not a large establishment by any means and is more of a local bar. That said, UConn students are always welcome as long as they are at least 18. They also have a Friday special of $3 Budweiser, Bud Light and Bud Light Limes all night.
The band currently has their full album available for free download online and can be found through their Facebook page, Grinning Dog.
