The Media May Love Huckabee, But Conservatives Shouldn't

Abstract:
For the new year it looks as though Mike Huckabee is the new John McCain. Huckabee has captured the position among the Republican candidates for President as media's new conservative darling, thus ensuring the coveted support of RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) in New England....

"However if there is good to come from the fawning media coverage of Huckabee, it is that they are constantly highlighting his shortcomings as a candidate". Hmmm....sounds pretty negative, kind of like a particular candidate I know of...hmmm...let me guess you are in favor of either Romney or Thompson. How can you see this as good? How can pointing out the failings of a candidate ever be seen as good, unless you have your poles backward and see evil as good and good as evil. In that case, you are not qualified to judge this matter.

Yes, Mick Huckabee is no conservative. He is frankly becoming a bit of an embarassment. I don't know how the folksy Gomer Pyle image is actually drawing support. All of the conservatives I know see Mike Huckabee as a fraud and resent his new "get-tough" stance on illegal immigration when we know that his actions in office spoke otherwise. He not only supported giving illegal aliens in-State tuition, but berated ICE when they made raids in Arkansas. The last thing we need is another "compassionate conservative" like Jorge Bush whose personal convictions are diametrically opposed to the majority of Americans, even at the expense of his refusal to uphold the laws of the land. Such cowardice has caused great pain and chaos to American citizens who want immigration laws enforced and the aliens deported. We are sick of the pandering to criminals. Huckabee has already shown his true colors and his actions have shown that he is not representative of my views on the most important issue of our time--illegal immigration. We don't want to hear that the aliens "are going to have to wait in line" when we want a leader who can say "get out of my country". Now there would be someone I support. Someone who actually knows that illegal immigration is a crime.

Truth needs to be told

It is quite obvious the author is supporting Romney or Giuliani, or maybe still on the Thompson boat, although it sank a few weeks ago.

Most of the "facts" about Mike Huckabee in this piece are completely false. I am still waiting for some editorial validity in the Daily Campus Commentary section.

"Huckabee supports raising taxes, he opposes school choice, he supports government benefits for illegals and he supports a national smoking ban."

I am not sure where the author came up with these, but they are all untrue and while I can write what Huckabee is really about, it's probably best to just go to his website and read it for yourself.

Find the truth to this commentary at www.mikehuckabee.com

Some more things I found as completely false:
"Huckabee has captured the position among the Republican candidates for President as media's new conservative darling, thus ensuring the coveted support of RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) in New England."

I am not sure where the author was trying to go with that phrase. "RINOs" are definitively not supporting Huckabee. In fact, Huckabee's weak point is the Northeast where more liberal candidates are ahead. Does Giuliani ring a bell?

Huckabee's surge is not because of him becoming the "new conservative darling," but is instead a result of more people understanding what Huckabee has to offer.

In 1986 Ronald Reagan granted amnesty to 2.7 million illegal immigrants...

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=50 359

Ronald Reagan also raised taxes multiple times during his Presidency including a hike in the gasoline tax...

"Faced with looming deficits, Reagan raised taxes again in 1983 with a gasoline tax and once more in 1984, this time by $50 billion over three years, mainly through closing tax loopholes for business. Despite the fact that such increases were anathema to conservatives..."

"Reagan raised taxes a grand total of four times just between 1982-84."

By the definition of secular conservatives, Ronald Reagan was a liberal.

Just imagine if Ronald Reagan were campaigning today on a platform of granting amnesty to illegal immigrants (which he did) and raising gasoline taxes (which he did). Would Reagan be called a liberal? Absolutely.

Truth be told, Mike Huckabee's record is more conservative than both Ronald Reagan and George Bush.

Mark, you mistakenly associate Ronald Reagan with the amnesty of 1986. He did not grant amnesty in 1986. He was talked into signing the law that originated in Congress supposing (wrongly of course) that the promised "crackdown" would also come into play. Reagan was one of the best presidents our Country has ever had. Jorge Bush one of the worst, if not the worst. So much for compassionate conservative. Unfortunately Huckabee is also of the same mold as Jorge Bush. He is the LAST one I would vote for not just because of his liberal views and record, but also because of his religion. It is dangerous to invoke the name of God in the interest of one's own agenda. God says as much when He says, "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain!" Huckabee's contorted logic based in theology that we owe things to the illegal aliens coming into the Country to make up for slavery is preposterous. In reality the use of Black slaves from Africa was our original experiment in importing cheap foreign labor. As Dr. Phil would say, "how's did that work out for you, America?" Mike Huckabee is another Arkansa governor who can play a musical instrument that is beholden to Tyson Foods. We don't need another one of his sort or another Clinton in the White House. Amen.

To the author:

Just as you mention the media's love for Mc Cain and Huckabee, the very point you make about Fred Thompson is why you do not hear about him in the media. It is the media who repeats the mantra about Thompson and YOU FELL FOR IT. I am amazed. The immigration paper that you like is ONE of several positions that Fred has authored. Of course, who would know? WE are the ones who are lazy and the media know how to pull our strings. Fred is the one man they do NOT want elected. Nevertheless, with little money, less time but an energetic campaign schedule, he will likely come in at 2nd or 3rd in Iowa...DESPITE ALL THE CRAP.

You guys are so gullable. You actually believe what this guys says?
In politics, as in life, actions speak louder than words. The Huckter's actions and record are all I need to know about this guy. He is Jorge Bush lite. I'm a bit tired of sweet talkin' southern presidents that are incompetents like Johnson, Carter, Clinton, Bush, Huckabee, etc.
No mas.
