Consider Illegal Immigrants Out-Of-State

Abstract:
At the moment, illegal immigrants are able to attend Connecticut's state universities, but must pay out-of-state tuition. Yet in a public hearing last week, Connecticut State University Chancellor David Carter expressed his support for a bill that would allow undocumented illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at any of the state's public colleges and universities....

Excuse me, but there here illegally. Instead of paying for anything for the illegals, they should be deported. Duh, they have broken the law!

Do you really consider a child who was brought here by her parents at the age of 7 as having "broken the law" by her own free will? We don't punish students who have parents who are convicted of crimes such as theft and murder by denying them an education. Why should we deny an education to students who have parents who broke the law by bringing them here?

Wow, the DC -- which is usually left of center -- making a sound, reasoned decision that one might label "conservative".

While one might, I wouldn't. This is just common sense. If the goal is to help children of illegals -- who presumably have not done anything wrong (but their parents have) -- contribute to society, there are better ways than cutting them a break on tuition.

Yes these people are ILLEGALLY in this country, why in the hell are you rewarding them with College. Acts like this support breaking federal laws. No reduction for Illegal Immigrants, they should be deported. Next for people that commit a crime with a gun, they get free food, housing and medical care?? Do the right thing and do not support things like this and ask the law makers why they are going against American Citizens and trying to reward Illegal Immigrants

Yeah Jim! While we're at it lets round up those Japanese again and put them back in the camps like we did in WWII. Oh, wait that's right, those aren't particularlly moral things to do, and quite an isolationist attitude. Jim, because legislators are attempting to enrich the lives of children of illegal immigrants doesn't inherantly mean that they are going against American citizens. Are illegals breaking the law by being in America? Yes, but how can helping people achieve an education ever be bad? As mentioned, many children of illegals didn't come here of their own free will but by their parent's wishes they become better people. Helping them can only help America grow as a nation full of diverse and educated.

I agree whole heartedly with the readers whom stated
that we should not be rewarding anyone for breaking our laws. Such is the case with the immirgrants(undocumented)
who entered this country by not going thru proper channels, regardless of what ever reasons they may have.

Thousands people doing the right thing often have to wait years to be approved/allowed to enter our great country, lets reward those who follow the laws, and prosecute those who don't by deporting them.

No, no, no, all of the posters thus far have it all wrong. I fully support this. This way they (the illegal immigrants) have to apply to get the in-state and wham! We now know who they are and where they live. As long as this would be used as a honey pot to find them and rectify the whole breaking the law and using up tax payer resources. Honestly, this is just one of the stupidest things I have heard of in many years. We all know that this won't be used as a honey pot and instead is just rewarding law breaking. Good job CT, good job.

I don't care about these people. They are smart people. I don't care if they are illegal. America need smart people. However, only thing that gets me is that Spanish is being used at everywhere. Shouldn't they (Latin America immigrants, illegal or legal) be learning Spanish? I think America's official language is English. Oh, sorry, It's Chinese. Until my death, or Chinese become language of America, Spanish have no place in the United States. They should learn and use English.

Actually, there is a way of knowing if these 'illegal immigrants' or their parents are paying taxes. In other states, that have enacted such laws, they are required to file their taxes before even being considered. I don't think it's their fault, I have met some of whom don't even speak their native language! Do what you must to the criminals but America is all these kids have known. I think our focus should be on our fellow Americans who are ruining our country by not contributing to society. Billions are spent on them every year on welfare and prison alone. Yet, we give our attention to the people who are keeping American jobs in America! I would rather have an immigrant keep his money here than have a person in China work to be a world power. Face it America if we continue to drive jobs elsewhere we will no longer be a world power.
