Palin too busy to be VP and mom/grandma

Abstract:
The presidential campaign is rapidly spiraling into an episode of "Desperate Housewives." There are ridiculous rumors circulating that Sarah Palin's 4-month-old son is really her 17-year-old daughter's child. This is a political campaign - not a drama on ABC....

Wow how offensive. How long have you hated women? Is this editorial out of the 1950's? Let me be the first to welcome you to the 21st century. You give the Geico cavemen a bad name.

This premise is so ridiculous it's almost laughable. To in any way suggest that Palin would be overhwhelmed by her jobs as a vice president and mother is to discredit the work she had done as a governor and a mother in becoming a powerful enough woman that she was qualified as a potential vice presidential candidate. How is her situation any different than any other politician who has had to manage a career and a family? Are Obama's kids going to suffer if he becomes president? Who's to say he'll be able to effectively act as a father and president? What a joke.

True it is hard to take care of a family, but it's this way for both men and women with large families. Not just women.

What I find shameful is how they forced a seventeen year old girl into the spotlight just so they can. Your own child is not a platform for abstience only education.

They are hoping Palin will be a future canidate, they are grooming her, much as I loathe that word to claim the prez spot/

Obviously, we should not apply a double standard here. Male politicians are never faced with questions of who will raise the kids. But I think the difference is when you offer up a candidate's motherhood as a qualification for the job, then you have to answer those questions. I've seen "guy on the street" interviews with stupid people who say "just bein' a mom of five" qualifies Gov. Palin to run the country. The simple fact remains that if she is elected VP, she won't be raising her family or dealing with the very difficult day to day care that a special needs child requires. Someone else will be doing that for her. That is, afterall, the easiest way to raise a family and it happens all over the country every day.

Sarah Palin offered more insight into what this nation needs from it governmental leaders in the last 5 days than any of the unterm limited congressional membership has ever!

I was literally speechless when I read this article. To suggest that Sarah Palin should not run for Vice President because she has a family implies that any woman who wants to raise a family should not have any kind of demanding job. Women who are CEOs, who do research, or who have successful careers in other fields certainly must devote a similar level of time to their work, yet to say that they should sacrifice those careers to spend more time with their children is somewhat appalling to me. The other part about this argument that I find ridiculous is that these same questions are never raised about men. There is a reality that a successful career often comes at the cost of having less time with your family, but that holds true for men as well. There are studies that have shown that the lack of a father's presence in the life of a child has a negative impact as well. The bottom line is that this detracts from what would be a valid debate over whether or not Sarah Palin is qualified for the position, but to suggest that having a family somehow means she can't fulfill the duties of a Vice President is just ludicrous.

To discredit Palin on the basis of this article is ludacris. I wonder if the author listened to what she had to say at the RNC, what she has accomplished as a politician, what she will bring to the country, and thought about it, instead of listening to the un-backed stupid facts of the liberal media. SO WHAT if her daughter got pregnant? Life goes on, that doesn't make Sarah Palin any less of a mother. 5 kids? More power to her. All I have to say to this article is WHO CARES?? Write me a real article instead of pointless un-backed opinions.

I agree with the author. I have been thinking exactly the same. I am a 46 year old mom of 6 and I can tell you the teen pregnancy is a red flag that Sarah Palin has already not been present enough in her children's lives. There is no way to be full time to both, and her family has suffered and will continue to do so. The little baby with Down's needs his momma there taking care of him, not hired help. It is ridiculous for all of you to think Sarah Palin is the ONLY person able to be VP!!! There are enough out there who could do a great job without shoving their children off to be raised most of the day by others.

I agree wholeheartedly with the opinions expressed.

It's been 6 months, and this horribly ignorant and sexist editorial is still ringing in my head. As much as I dislike Sarah Palin (and dislike is a mild word here), there's no reason her husband can't raise the kids while she's busy fulfilling her vice-presidential duties! I was raised primarily by my father, and I would say dads can be good parents, too! Thankfully, however, Obama is rockin' the white house, so Palin can go back to Alaska and Alex Sanders can sleep at night knowing the Palin children/grandchild will be cared for. Puh-leez.
