McCain should be held responsible for racial remarks

Abstract:
Eight years ago, John McCain made a statement that should have raised a massive outcry. Instead, it went by almost unnoticed - a tiny blip in the political landscape.
"I hate the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live."
In 2000, McCain uttered these words while campaigning for the Republican presidential bid....

Give me a break! I'm Asian, and I understand EXACTLY what he means when he says that. When he said "Gooks" he meant the North Vietnamese that held him hostage, tortured and beat him for five years and you are going to judge him for saying that????

I agree. "Gook," to us Vietnam veterans, referred specifically to the North Vietnamese and not to Asians generally. (There were other pejoratives for them -- that's not good but it's true.) McCain may as well have said he cannot forgive the people who imprisoned and tortured him for 5-1/2 years. I can't say that I blame him.

How about Obama's "white man's greed" remarks?

This is ridiculous.. I say give me a break! I'm tired of the Daily Campus being so far left-wing to the point that there is basically only one opinion. I love to see that there are 4 articles about McCain. (2 of which are really the same article about Palin) AND ALL OF THEM NEGATIVE! How come Barack Obama gets the front page last week during the DNC.. but McCain is portrayed as old and entangled in controversial issues during the RNC. What about the great things about him. I want POSTIVE and NEGATIVE articles about both candidates!!!! I want a choice and not the same old media-driven articles.

are you kidding me? the DC is NOT left wing. there have been many complaints about the DC being far too conservative. which, it is. you might've meant right wing and not left wing.

If you want a more "balanced" paper, go and write for it. However, you won't get any real information about either candidate from the media. Rather, you'll get these ridiculous articles about who said what. If you really want change in America, vote for a third party candidate who isn't a corporate funded fat cat indebted to special interests. Obama and McCain are both basically the same candidate when it comes to a lot of issues. They both want to continue the drug war, drill for oil off the coast of California, and keep troops in Iraq (albeit, for different amounts of time). Only third party candidates are calling for an immediate troop withdrawal, fiscal responsibility, smaller government, and an end to corporate welfare, but they don't get any media coverage. Think about that a little.

This is a satire piece right? If the author is truly sincere, I think you need to take a step back..look at the big picture of things..and see if you really are up to writing commentaries. Sounds to me the author has a little self-esteem issue...

Pratistha Koirala's article is a good, well-thought out piece.

What, on the other hand, IS the deal with all the idiotic comments here?

To "John": YOU are the one with the self-esteem issue. There is also the issue of your incredibly low level of intelligence.
