'The Decider' Correct, Hippies Wrong On Iraq

Abstract:
We've all read columns by those freedom-hating, anti-American hippies who think that the war in Iraq is a big bust, but real Americans know that these colors don't run. We're going to stay in Iraq until we've accomplished what we went there to do. President Bush has set out a clear list of objectives and we will follow him to victory, because patriotism is about blind faith and unquestioning obedience to authority....

Maynard has made it emminently clear that he loves the Iraq war. Yet I do not see his byline listed as Baghdad.

I am sure that Maynard's priorities, ala Cheney, are just more important than actually fighting in the war he loves so much.

Yet, since Maynard loves the war, but will not fight in the war, the only explanations are that he is either a hypocrite or a coward. I have to rule out hypocracy or else I would have to ignore all that he has written. So, cowardice it is. And since Maynard does not recognize his cowardice, it must be pointed out to him, so that he can rectify his character flaw.

Eras come and go, Maynard, and I am sure that your cowardice, in the face of your ernestly stated principles, is just another asterisk in contemporary cultural history.

im sick of your type of...

do you think america shouldn't have gone to war to find osama and kill him and all of his cohorts (and i know that's not what the iraqi war is about obviously, just hear me out)? do you think the search for osama is not worthy of support?

if you support destroying the people who caused 9/11, why arent you with them? why didnt you join the military immediately after that tragedy so you could be the first off the plane in afghanistan hunting him down? does the fact that you didn't join the military (or that i didn't or that a vast majority of america didnt) mean that we don't support the destruction of terrorist regimes, or that we support osama bin laden? not joining up does not mean not supporting the war.

yours is a faulty logic on so many levels. why haven't i joined the military yet? i'm too much of a coward. which is what makes me support the troops all the more. America's military is the world's finest and i respect them with every ounce of my being. they signed up knowing the risk, and now they face it. i support the war in iraq because i believe it was started for the right reasons. after 9/11 bush gave a speech saying simply he would wipe out terrorism, and that the war would not be easy and it wouldn't be short.

now that it isn't easy or short, people claim he lied. whatever. as a new yorker, i support everything that will prevent another 9/11. and if you're gonna argue with those that support the war, you gotta have something better than, if you love it so much, why arent you fighting in it.

if you love the law so much, why arent you a cop? or if you love teachers, why arent you one? grow up and get a better argument.

sorry that was so poorly written/organized, didnt feel like spending too much time on a response that you clearly gave no thought to yourself.

Jerry makes an excellent point, Maynard. Furthermore, his logic is clear and he has command of the language.

So, Maynard, you still have not answered the question: Why are you not fighting in Iraq? Take your time and write an essay that would at least pass Freshman English. Your writing is an embarassment to the University of Connecticut.

are you talking to me or the writer?

because i support the war, the writer of the article would appear not to, as from what i can see, the piece is a satire....

then again, i didn't pass or even take freshman english at uconn as i was taking it at the university i attended back in the day, so what do i know

Maynard (yes I wrote the piece)

whoever wrote the fourth comment had it right, it was a satire. sorry about all that. i'm actually vehemently anti-war and have supported that position in a multitude of columns i've written this year. there is no reason for the united states to still be in iraq, but from what i'm reading, the first few commenters already know that.

People actually didn't get that this was satire?

No wonder so many people were offended by the magical rape article.

and on the subject of my cowardice. regardless of what my views are, at least i put my name on them instead of leaving them anonymous.

How dumb can you get? This is obviously satire.
