Condom cutbacks are an unnecessary risk

Abstract:
To those UConn students who are sexually active: start saving up money and get ready to invest in birth control. The UConn Health Education is no longer giving Community Assistants a duffle bag chock-full-of-condoms. Now, CA's are given a mere 18 to pass out to about 40 residents depending on the residence hall....

Abstinance prevents all sexally transmitted diseases including A.I.D.S. Plus unwanted pregancy. Following God's laws stops STD'S.u No sex before marrage. Remain Chasted. No homosexualty. Women should dress modestly to stop rape. Condoms have been proven not to work reliably and plus they do nothing for the under lying sin involved. If you rob a bank or kill someone wearing a pair of rubber gloves you might be protected but God knows that you have sinned just the same.

you have got to be kidding me? "women should dress modestly to stop rape"??? That comment is insulting to both men and women. Stop blaming women for men's actions--you're the reason why 90% of rape cases aren't reported. As for men---are you assuming that they're rabid werewolf animals that change once they see sign of cleavage like the damn full moon and go beserk? Go back to your bible belt. And take your oppressive myths with you.

oh, and folks, don't listen to him. Condoms are highly effective when used properly. Don't be a fool, wrap your tool.

This column is silly for a number of reasons.
1) The author assumes that students are like animals and absolutely cannot control their sexual behavior. That's not true, if students are concerned about having sex without a condom, the answer is simple, just don't do it or go buy condoms.

2) Everyone ought to be responsible for their own sexual behavior. I don't care what other people want to do, but they shouldn't do it with my money. I am a commuter and I don't go to the Health Center, so why should I have to pay for other people to have free condoms on their floor?

3) Free condoms are available at the Health Center, so stop whining.

4) If you are too embarrassed to buy your own condoms or go to the Health Center every now and again to get free ones, you are not mature enough to be having sex. Take responsibility for yourself and stop trying to foist the costs off on everyone else.

If you are too embarrassed to buy or ask for condoms, you shouldn't be having sex in the first place.

jeeez... grow up. we're not little kids. we don't need the university to buy us plastic wrap. we know it's important. I have a job. I'm paying for an education. not a lifestyle of not having to be responsible of the vital side effects of sexual activity.
