Beirut Or Beer Pong: Can You Decide?

Abstract:
For a game that seems so universally played, no one seems to agree on a set of rules, penalties for table misconduct or a name. People seem to be divided into three categories: those who passionately call the game beer pong, those who only refer to it as Beirut and those who don't really care one way or the other....

The first version of the game that I played was called Beirut for the reasons specified by Miss Pickett. However, the rules are as such:
1) 10 Cups in pyramid shape, must use one standard size pitcher per side per round to fill the cups.
2) Balls that miss a cup, are dropped or are loose at any time during the game are up for grabs no matter where they are loose. Full contact is allowed for obtaining any loose balls. Descretion is advised if women are playing, beware of women who don't shave their pits.
3) Blowing is allowed however you have to be an ass to try that.
4) 2 Balls are in play at all times. You must finish with the two balls you start with. If one is lost each side must finish all of their remaining cups and the match is restarted with ten cups a piece. You can finish with "squashed" or "damaged" balls.
5) You must finish your cup of beer before you can throw.
6) Partners must alternate who drinks.
7) If a team sinks two consecutive shots they get the both balls back and can shoot.
8) Tables can be any size as long as the teams agree to compete using the specified table.
9) When all cups of an opponent have been sunk the other team wins. The loser must drink all of the remaining beer on the table that is in cups.
10) Pegging is allowed for the last remaining cup only. You can throw hard at the last cup to try to knock it over rather then sinking it. Any cups that are knocked over prior can be stood back up with no penalty. (The team with the knocked over cup just drinks less.)

Just a comment about the name Beirut. How would you like it if someone from the middle east called his drinking game 9/11? The insentitivity and cluelesness of american youth is quite dumbfounding...

How about some little children play a game that is based upon a disease that wiped out a portion of our population..."ring around the rosie" ring a bell. It's a game get over yourself. People such as yourself are the ones that caused this politcally correct nonsense in the first place...it's a name. Freedom of speech. If it bothers you I'll give you a hug.

I would just like to let you know that during the first Golf war the US did not bomb Beirut...actually in the early 80's it was your embassy in Beirut that was blown to pieces.
The US never directly bomb Lebanon.

And then you ask... "oh but why do they hate us???? What did we do to them we just allow our government and president to kill them under the stupid pretext of democracy!!!" Is imposing your view on others a democratic move???
And how about your stupid names of "freedom fries" ahahahah don't you all have better things to do????
But I'm pretty impressed that American youth actually know where Beirut is... it's an improvement from that past previous years...

Beirut is technically played with bottle caps, NOT ping pong balls. There really isn't a 'right' name for the game we all love to play, but I argue that since beer pong as least includes ping pong balls, the name is more appropriate.

Long live beer pong!

Beirut is a city in lebanon!

I call it Beer Pong, I've always called it that nobody in my home town ever called it Beirut, and up here at Suny Albany I don't hear anybody call it that.

I grew up calling it Beirut and since I'm from NYC the game is called Beirut end of discussion. This is confirmed in the movie Beerfest as well.
