Student arrested in DC Lieberman protest

Abstract:
Senator Joseph I. Lieberman (DI-CT) refused to meet with demonstrators staging an impromptu sit-in at his office on Capitol Hill Thursday that ended with the arrest of nine individuals, one of whom was a UConn student.

"When Lieberman came out against the [health care] bill, we thought 'okay it's time to step it up,'" said Jason Ortiz, a 6th-semester communications major and president of the UConn ACLU....

Lieberman is the most corrupt senator, just find out about the association he has with the insurance company, the last time he ran for office and lost as a democrat ,he asked the insurance companies to finance him as an independent, thats the reason he won

Go Lieberman! The public option will be horrible and you guys will realize it when you can't get an appointment for your mono because the doctors are overbooked.

News flash: Aetna would not be in business if they relied on turning down claims as a business model. They aren't the bad guys from a John Grisham novel just because they make money. In fact, when you grow up, you'll find that it is good to work for a company that makes money, as it makes it possible for them to provide livable wages as well as benefits including health care to their employees.

That may be true, but how can one be described as a health insurance company when only 70-75% of all reasonable claims are covered? I'm not going to patronize you or make generalizations about your station in life; a difference in opinions, after all, is what makes for a horse race. Corporatism, I can say from experience, doesn't seem so rosy when its
your health and well-being being weighed against a company's bottom line.

While Aetna doesn't have the best record among insurers regarding turning down claims, it has a better than the government's Medicare. "According to the American Medical Association, Medicare turns down 6.85 percent of claim lines, followed by Aetna at 6.8, Anthem at 4.62, Health Net at 3.88, Cigna at 3.44, Coventry at 2.88 and UHC at 2.68." Hey Ignoramus (so aptly named), where do you go when the government runs the whole show (as they are certain to do and we even have democrats saying so on youtube)and they turn you down? NOWHERE! You libs are stupid or nuts or you are true believers in these Utopian fantasies. This is a power grab and that's all it is. It leaves 13 million people without coverage and raises taxes on everyone! No system will ever be perfect and there are going to be those that will not get coverage in any of them including this one. Furthermore, the biggest problem with government is restraint. You may not like corporations, but poorly run ones perish quickly (unless the government props them up). The government can continue running as inefficiently as it pleases without a care. When it has shortfalls, it taxes, borrows, or simply prints money to cover them. These things have consequences and they are materializing now. Unemployment is up over 10% today and it will continue to climb unless this government creates an atmosphere conducive to business and private enterprise. The government can only produce more waste, fraud, and abuse of the American people! Now wake the f*%k up already!

It's a decent work of performance art, but as a troll piece,it could use a bit more polishing. "Libs" was a great choice early-on to build up outrage; the other ad-hominem attacks were a nice touch. I liked the use of capital letters but I would have liked to see more of them used throughout the piece for emphasis. You can never use enough exclamation points so feel free to add some more. Your combination of "waste, fraud, and abuse" really captured the spirit of the piece

I'm docking two points for the following:

-The parenthesis really slowed down the flow of the piece; it should flow as a long diatribe instead of a series of disjointed talking points. Please wok on this for next time.

-The use of the expletive was too much; the outrage of a troll piece should come from within, not from a sprinkling of no-no words. Offensive language doesn't always have to consist of swears or curses; coining your own carefully targeted terms can have just as powerful an impact.

There is a misspelling in the above article: the correct name is Jon Mohrbacher, not John Morbacker.

There is a major flaw / conflict engineered into our healthcare system. The US system is built on "for profit" entities which collect money for premiums, but are beholden to shareholders. The conflict is clear. The company is expected to make profits for its shareholders, and will deny claims and refuse coverage to do so. Those for profit entities traded on the exchange must show a return on investment to keep share prices high and climbing. You dont make a profit by accepting claims and ensuring proper patient care. That is not the financial incentive. These companies also have a financial interest to protect and hence provide hundreds of thousands of dollars to politicians like Lieberman to ensure that there is no public option (e.g., real alternative) to their livelihood. I for one would like to have a not for profit alternative such that the money collected in insurance premiums is used for healthcare and not for excess executive pay and benefits, political contributions and shareholder dividends.
