Abstract:
It is not realistic to believe the John Dempsey Hospital will not need state assistance after the mergers between the UConn Health Center in Farmington and Hartford Hospital is complete.
I imagine the request from the UConn Health Center will want to cover outstanding costs not absorbed by the partnership....

Did you bother to ask about the process, which has included faculty and staff consultation and more? Do you have any idea what the process over the last year has involved?
The strategy for oversight (who has what authority) is well-developed and understood (well, obviously, not by you). You have done ZERO research on this, other than reading an old Courant article -- and even that you've managed to mis-represent.
You clearly have no understanding of the arrangement being proposed -- financial, logistics, organization. If you are not going to do research, check facts, make sure you get the story right, then keep it to yourself.
Where in the world do you get the idea that the engineering department has the expertise to understand the complexities of healthcare finances and requirements for a healthcare building? What do you think engineers actually do? (They are neither architects nor healthcare facilities design experts.)
Please UConn students -- demand that student funds stop funding the daily crapus or at least demand that Carroll be fired for incompetence. One also must question the editorial oversight -- the buck stops with the editor. This is a complete waste of money -- how much are the students paying for this piece of bird-cage liner?
