Concerts coming to the greater Hartford Area

Every other week The Daily Campus will run a preview on some upcoming concerts coming to the area.

Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville

Willie Nelson and Family/

Jakob Dylan

When and how much: 9/24, 7:30 p.m., $30

The country/folk/americana '70s legend, Willie Nelson, will perform along with Jakob Dylan. Willie Nelson is an acoustic guitar artist, and has a sound similar to Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. Jakob Dylan is an acoustic folk singer and songwriter, best known as Bob Dylan's son and lead singer of the Wallflowers. He has a similar sound to Josh Ritter and Eddie Vedder.

Chuck Wicks

8 p.m., $50

Country performer Brad Paisley is based out of Virginia, and has previously won the Country Music Association's (CMA) Horizon Award and the Academy of Country Music's best new male vocalist trophy, as well as a gram nomination. Paisley is a singer and songwriter, and sounds similar to Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and the Rascal Flatts.

New Kids on the Block

When and how much: 9/30, 7:30 p.m., $47.50

The successful pop boy-band of the late '80s and '90s, is trying to make a comeback touring for their newest album, "The Block." This band sounds similar to Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC.

Toad's Place, New Haven

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

When and how much: 9/26,

9:30 p.m., $15

A rock, blues and indie group headed by Grace Potter, the Nocturnals are a Vermont-based band whose sound has been compared to Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, and Aretha Franklin.

Motion City Soundtrack

When and how much: 9/28,

7 p.m., $23 at door

Get ready to mosh, as these rock, screamo bands take the stage. Both bands are well known in their genre, and are similar to Say Anything, Circa Survive and Dance Gavin Dance.

The Webster Theater, Hartford

Apocalyptica

When and how much: 9/27,

7:00 p.m., $18

A symphonic metal, instrumental band from Finland, this band consists of three cellists and a drummer, who play mostly Metallica covers. Similar artists include Nightwish, Hevein and Sonata Artica.

The Fratellis

When and how much: 10/04, 7:00 p.m., $15

This indie rock band is based out of England, is best known for their track "Flathead," which was featured in an iPod commercial. They have a similar sound to Franz Ferdinand, The Artic Monkeys and Dirty Pretty Things.

Aeroplane, 1929

9:00 p.m., $8 (21+)

A New Haven and Springfield, Mass. based band, this group has an indie/folk/pop sound which is similar to Wilco, Okkervil River, and Neutral Milk Hotel.

Jenny Lewis

247 College Street, New Haven

When and how much: 10/5, Shubert Theater, 7:00p.m, $30

Best known as the lead singer of Rilo Kiley, Jenny Lewis is an indie/folk singer, who sounds similar to Maria Taylor, Azure Ray and Mirah. Some may also recognize her as a child actress from "Troop Beverly Hills" or "Pleasantville."
