Barack Obama has what it takes, will take charge in all facets of society to bring about change

The word "change" has reverberated in Americans' ears for the past few months and it is about time that people should listen. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) is realistic about the core issues concerning America and he has definitive ideas to solve those problems.

Obama wants to de-escalate the war in Iraq using a timeline with the certainty that Iraq has become independent enough for the United States to do so. In 2007, he introduced the War De-escalation Act to make that possible. In addition to de-escalation, Obama works on initiatives to prevent nuclear terrorism and weapons proliferation, and he doesn't stop at the war effort. Obama will also work to stop genocide in Darfur and reduce poverty worldwide.

In the spirit of going green, Obama plans to promote programs that reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses, which contribute to global warming. He also hopes to help the environment through energy conservation. He advocates increasing renewable funds in an effort to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. If the U.S. reduces its dependence on foreign oil, gas prices could potentially be lower making consumers considerably happier. Obama also believes in a government that spends responsibly and is transparent to the public. A government can't function well and have any public support if that government is not honest and upfront about their motives and actions in the United States.

Obama will also take charge in government to help all facets of society in terms of health care. He believes that everyone should have access to health care and that those who need it can apply for Medicaid. Although concerned about the lower class, Obama will take action to help the middle class as well. Aside from health care, he will give middle class families $65 billion in tax cuts.

Obama's views allow people to make decisions for themselves. While he does not support altering the definition of marriage, he would allow civil unions and believes in equal rights for same sex couples. He also supports a woman's right to choose.

Obama can be an advocate of change in a time of political and economic turmoil. He admits that the government has been at fault and he is prepared to take on the burden of changing in hopes of a better America. For these reasons, The Daily Campus endorses Sen. Barack Obama for president of the United States.
