At least it wasn't sleeting and snowing, but the track meet this past weekend was still cold and rainy.
The men's outdoor track team won its second home meet of the season on Saturday. It was the third time that the men faced off against Brown in three weeks, and UConn came up on top of each series.
UConn finished in first place with 224 points while Brown was second with 211. UMass, Boston University and Providence were third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Leading the way for the Huskies with two first-place finishes was Andrew Dubs in the weight events. Dubs won the shot put and the discus throw. Dubs is currently ranked fourth in the shot put in the Big East this season and seventh in the discus.
Joel Legare also had a dominant day for the Huskies. Legare started off his day with a huge margin of victory in the 800-meter run. Legare dominated the event and almost matched his best time in the event this season, despite the poor weather conditions, with a time of 1:51.19.
Legare had another dominant performance, in the 4x400-meter relay. As the anchor leg of the relay team. He received the baton several meters behind Brown's relay team, but caught up and passed Brown on the final home stretch to win the race by less than a half of a second.
UConn had seven other first-place finishes at the meet.
Musevani Akanno wearing a pair of socks, bearing the Superman logo, jumped a personal best in the triple jump of 14.79 meters to win.
With his jump, Akanno moves up to sixth place this season in the conference. Akanno also took third place in the long jump.
UConn had success in the other field events, as well. Jake Radzevich won the pole vault by one and a half feet over the second-place finisher. Marquis Thomas won the high jump by two inches over the second-place finisher.
The other first-place finishes came with dominant performances from William Melofchik in the 5,000-meter run and Kelechi Ndu in the 100-meter dash. Melofchik also managed to qualify for the Big East Championship with his time in the 5,000.
The 4x100-meter relay also managed to come up with a victory.
Next weekend, the team will split up to attend the Penn Relays and the Wildcat Invitational in New Hampshire. It will be the last weekend for the team before they host the Big East Championship on May 5 to May 7.
