It might still feel like winter outside and spring is far off, but the UConn men and women's track teams are ready for the outdoors.

The outdoor track season kicks off this weekend as the women's team travels to Miami, Fla. for the Miami Invitational.

The women will look to carry over their success from the indoor season. This year's indoor track team placed first in their two scored regular season meets and in the postseason, despite a 10th place finish in the Big East Championship, the team bounced back for a second place in the New England Championships.

For the upcoming outdoor season, the women will look to continue that success and maybe push it even further as they return red-shirted senior Deirdre Mullen. Mullen is a four-time All-American in the high jump and even competed in the Olympic trials. This will be Mullen's last season of eligibility.

The team will also look for a big season out of star hurdler April Garner. Garner had a huge indoor season, as she broke her own school records for the 55-meter hurdles several times.

Another big contributor will be Daisy VanRavenswaay in the weight events. VanRavenswaay is only a sophomore and during this past indoor season she was a major contributor to the Huskies' success.

With a very young team, the women will also look at this season for more development of the younger athletes. With about five seniors on this year's 40-man roster, the team is poised for much success even as they continue to develop their young talent.

The schedule for this season will include two trips to Florida, a trip to California and three home meets. The women will host three invitationals, which will be their first home meets of the year.

The men will kick off their outdoor season March 26 when they travel to West Point, N.Y. for the Army Invitational.

The men will look to turn around a dismal indoor season, in which they red-shirted the core of their roster.
