This year's graduates will have two governmental leaders addressing them during commencement. One will be Connecticut Governor John G. Rowland, the other will be Frene Noshir Ginwala, a speaker from the South African National Assembly. Rowland has been a supporter of the development of UConn as he signed into legislation the 10-year, $1 billion UConn 2000 project in 1995.
The senior class has set up a scholarship fund for the families of victims of Sept. 11. This senior class gift is one that will keep on giving. The scholarship fund has not reached its goal of $30,000, according to Jillian Hoyt, the senior class gift coordinator.
Last Friday, UConn police arrested 10 students on a variety of drug charges after an investigation on campus that police say lasted over a month. A press release by the police department said the arrests were "part of a continuing effort to address substance abuse on the UConn campus.
