I've never been a big fan of the Republican Party, but you've got to give them credit. Somehow, they've convinced the American public the media is some sort of vast left-wing conspiracy, hell-bent only on making Republicans look bad instead of making the world a better place. Bravo, Republicans. Only one would have to spit in the face of all evidence and reason to make it look intelligent.
John Steinbeck's great novel, "The Grapes of Wrath" is about farmers from Oklahoma ("Okies") who are displaced from their land because of economic turmoil. One of the starkest scenes in the book is when one of the main characters is told that he has to leave his land. The farmer, in his rage, decides to find the man responsible and shoots him. After some thought, however, he realizes no one is responsible. The economic forces that compel him to abandon his land and way of life are larger than any single person or group.
This break seemed to be unending, with a full five weeks off. This may have seemed like a good thing to the many who went on vacation, hopefully to warmer places, but to those of us who went back to mom and dads or even worse, worked throughout break, this long hiatus seemed like it would never end.
