Commentary

Since Mahmoud Abbas took office as president of the Palestinian Authority on Jan. 15, Palestine and Israel have resumed diplomatic talks. After four years of war between the two, it is time to consider peace. In fact, a mutual truce was declared on Feb. 1.

I'm often told that I offer too many critiques and too few solutions. So this week, instead of giving everyone the standard "I hate kids that wear Abercrombie and platinum blonde girls" routine, I thought I'd take a look at what I view to be a very serious and viable solution to the equality of opportunity.

The excess of consumption in this consumer society of ours has grown immensely over the past half century. Consumers have always wanted more for their money and as a result, companies have made it easier for consumers to make purchases without moderation in mind.

There really aren't enough hours in the day. With class, midterms, studying, working, eating, writing research papers and calling your mom, we students often sacrifice a very special thing in order to get by in college. You can see it in the gait of students on the way to class, all bundled up in plaid pajama pants and block-letter sweatshirts, wearing glasses and still running into trees.

I am writing concerning the commentary titled "Abortion not justified" found in Feb. 15 edition of The Daily Campus. Many (if not most) of the statements made by the columnist, Mike Hubbard, are unfounded, over-simplified, and asinine. Hubbard uses shock-value tactics in his overly opinionated and nonfactual piece to portray the "pro-lifers'" argument as open-minded and logical.

While there certainly are advantages to drilling in Alaska as cited by Mr. Casapulla's opinion article "Alaskan Drilling Not So Bad" (2/16/05) I fear that his view is too short sighted. The numbers sited for the amount of oil under the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by ConnPIRG are those of the U.
