Unsettling Construction

The Department of Residential Life (ResLife) web site labels the Charter Oak Suites a "sight to behold." The suites, although externally beautiful and a housing priority for many university students, have recently been faced with a succession of internal construction efforts in what has become a semester-long attempt to correct fire and building code violations.

New mug to save trees

Any UConn student who regularly visits the Homer Babbidge library has likely either witnessed or been party to a subversive practice known as coffee smuggling. Whether wrapped casually in a patron's coat or cleverly balanced inside a backpack, these non-regulation cups o' joe have been infiltrating the library for years.

Last semester, Chi Phi Fraternity threw a party the same weekend as the UConn-Army football game. On Sept. 25, 2004, "Yellow House" was host to a band of West Point Cadets who played for party seekers that Saturday night. The party was held at the fraternity's end of their rush period.

Roommate selection begins today and while those who have been through the process before may feel like they know the ropes, the system has changed drastically from last year. "There are several changes from last year to this year," said Pamela Schipani, associate director of Residential Life (Reslife).
