The Daily Campus

Commentary

Next week, the student body will have the chance to elect the next undergraduate student trustee - arguably the most powerful student position on campus. As the election approaches, it is important students are aware they should elect an undergraduate. Connecticut state statutes and university regulations govern the elections for student trustee.

In less than one week, Spring Weekend will descend upon the UConn community. In six short days, this otherwise peaceful campus will be completely overrun with gratuitous partying, drunken madness and unwelcome violence. Alcohol, urine and vomit will run through the streets of Storrs like rainwater.

The student peddled frenetically, knowing full well class started in one minute. The Buckley to TLS haul for a class he hated was a painful trip, but at least biking made it go by faster. Sure there was the high probability of getting hit by a student driver barreling down the road at 50 mph while on the cell phone or coming to a complete stop behind a crowd of pedestrians, but it was the only feasible route.

For as long as it has existed, the political left has appeared to stand for free speech and tolerance. So one must ask why conservative speakers are being attacked and suppressed on college campuses across the nation. Now I'm not talking about columnists attacking conservatives - there are enough of those just like there are enough columns attacking liberals.

The comments about the Blood Drive aren't helpful. If you have a problem, come to one of our meetings or help us put up signs! We are taking 15 or 20 credits just like you. Can they just not do whatever they do on Horsebarn Hill that makes the WHOLE campus smell of cow feces at least twice a month? "White, middle class, suburban students" make up the majority of this campus.
