Fiddler On The Stage

Small tables and candlelight set the relaxed cabaret mood for Natalie MacMaster, as she fiddled her way into the cold night on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Jorgensen center for the Performing Arts. The full audience, composed mostly of local residents, was attentive and waited patiently for MacMaster to fiddle away. (0) comments

This year is off to a fast-paced start but, for the Chinese, the year has just begun. Sunday night marked the first day of celebration of the Year of the Boar. The Chinese New Year celebration begins on the first lunar day of the year, according to the Chinese calendar and ends 15 days later with the presence of a full moon. (0) comments

The William Benton Museum of Art offered a free open-studio drawing session to UConn and E.O. Smith High School students and Benton members yesterday in a new program that will occur every other Sunday at 1 p.m. One of the goals of the program is to help students "re-incorporate art into their lives" because art is not as readily available today, said Benton Director Steven Kern. Festival Kicks 'Brass'

Brass Day 2007 was literally a booming success with an array of polished and glistening trumpets, trombones, tubas, French horns, and euphoniums Saturday. Famed violinist and UConn violin professor Theodore Arm wowed audiences at von der Mehden Recital Hall Friday, with an impressive array of adagios, allegros and various other pieces. He performed pieces with pianist Minyoung Lee and cellist Kangho Lee (also UConn music professors), and provided musical accompaniment for a storytelling by accomplished entertainer Robert Cucuzza.
