Crisis Pregnancy Centers Lack Crucial Services

Time magazine recently featured a story on the so-called crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) that have been cropping up around the U.S. Although these CPCs have actually been around for a few decades, they have grown in number and are now receiving extra attention from the Bush administration, which views them as a mark of compassionate conservatism. Thursday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit ruled two to one that the Union Pacific Railroad Company did not discriminate against its female employees by excluding contraceptives from its health coverage plan. In fact, the company's health coverage did not cover any contraceptives at all. (0) comments

Last week, I introduced Dr. David Haines, an immunologist here at UConn who has built up a network of fellow researchers and doctors stretching from Indiana and Michigan to Iran and Kuwait. After the release of the Baker Hamilton Report in November, it was suggested to Haines that he use this network to bring Iran, and its unique medical know-how into Iraq to help rebuild the Iraqi health sector.
