The small size of UConn's fitness center is a fact so widely acknowledged and complained about that it has become as notorious as spring weekend. However, this might change soon. After weeks of campaigning, a 52-vote margin earned Ross Gionfriddo, a 4th-semester political science and economics double major the position of Undergraduate Student Trustee Monday, according to UConn Dean of Students Lee Williams. Gionfriddo, the vice president of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, received 618 votes to defeat fellow candidates Bradford Cook, Evynne Graveline, Jeremy Jelliffe, Steven Bourque, Jonathan Sierakowski, Hera Butt, Pasquale Morra, Amy Israel and Louis Gentile who had been disqualified for a late submission of his financial statement. As students went to and from class through Fairfield Way Monday, many stopped to brows the numerous tables and displays setup as part of UConn's celebration of Earth Day 2007. Students offended by material published in The Daily Campus this year spoke out with a presentation in the Student Union Theater Monday night entitled, "The D.C. Hurts Me." The event was advertised as "a presentation about how The Daily Campus harms its readers and the greater UConn community" on many flyers posted around campus. (14) comments
