Face it. Being apathetic about politics, economy, or ecology - take your pick - is just like smoking cigarettes - it's cool, everybody knows it, but no one will admit it. You need to make that last donation you made to charity, that last time you read about hungry kids in Africa and went "Aw, that sucks," that last time you saw ice cubes melting in your soda cup and was reminded of something global - truly your last time. It has been 10 years now since the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and still the coverage persists. Conspiracy theorists and family members alike insist it was an imperial plot against the princess - an attempt by the stuffy, reticent monarchy to do away with a young woman whose vibrancy and selflessness impeded the royal family's ability to ignore the humanity and plight of the real world. University students are used to living under a litany of rules and regulations designed to make life on campus safe and enjoyable for all. Quiet hours, university-issued ID cards and community assistants are a regular aspect of life for campus residents. However, the actions of the management of Carriage House Apartments, as well as those of Dean of Students Lee Williams, have extended these campus annoyances out into the community, where they have become a real hindrance to the normal living Carriage residents were expecting when they signed year-long leases. In honor of the recent water conservation efforts, I have been doing half loads of laundry, letting the sink run while I go to class, and giving not two, but three courtesy flushes each time I use the restroom.
