The No. 8 women's hockey team wasted little time Thursday night in disposing of conference foe Providence (0-2-2, 0-1 Hockey East), scoring the first goal in a 5-0 victory less than a minute into the action. Erin Normore of Providence had barely taken her seat in the penalty box for a hooking call 46 seconds into the game when UConn freshman Jody Sydor slipped a shot from just beyond the blue line through traffic and into the back of the net just 13 seconds later. The women's hockey team may be anchored by a strong group of veteran leadership, but a number of young players have emerged this season. UConn took the early lead Thursday against Providence on a goal by freshman Jody Sydor only 59 seconds into the game. The lead was increased to 2-0 when fellow freshman Brittany Murphy put one past Friars goaltender Danielle Ciarletta with 5:27 left in the first. (0) comments

If officials blow a pivotal call that costs your team a touchdown, turnover or deprives them of 1st-and-goal from the one, what do you do? Grab whatever you can get your hands on and throw it on the field in protest and disgust, right? Well, you could do that if you want your school and fan base to look like a classless joke who doesn't know anything about football. (1) comment
