As the ball hung up in the air and the final seconds ticked off the clock, every member of the men's soccer team fell like anvils to the ground. Some, laying face down in the muck that was the Morrone Stadium field; others, with their hands shielding their bleary eyes; and some sitting, crouched up in a ball and staring off into the distance, wondering how and why a season filled championship-aspirations and dreams of making history suddenly came to an end. It was just a matter of time for head coach Jim Calhoun's emotions to boil over this season. Through seven games this year, Calhoun had already received two technical fouls - one in the exhibition game against Assumption and the other against Gonzaga. With the men's basketball team struggling to pull away from a scrappy Northeastern club midway through the second half, a disgruntled crowd turned its attention away from the court and onto the student section as they bounced a huge, brightly-colored beach ball around the stands. (0) comments

With about eight minutes left in the first half, the ball careened off the rim and fell lifeless on the ground. Players from both teams dove to the floor in desperation, jumping all over each other to seize the loose ball opportunity. And just as it appeared that a Northeastern player had grabbed possession, Gavin Edwards jumped on top of the pile, wrapped his arms around the ball and wouldn't let go. (0) comments

It will be a battle of high-powered offenses Saturday as the third-seeded UConn men's soccer team faces No. 11 seed Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. at Morrone Stadium in the quarterfinals of the 2007 College Cup. The Hokies provide UConn with arguably its toughest matchup all year. (0) comments

When compared to last year, the women's soccer team outdid itself - making it to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament this year after winning on the road each round, ultimately falling, 3-2, in a double overtime loss to Florida State.
