The USG presidential and vice presidential candidates debated issues of student involvement, organizational relationships and commitments to the university Tuesday night in the Student Union. Representatives from the Student Union Board of Governors (SUBOG), ConnPIRG, Board of Trustees, WHUS and the USG advisor posed questions for the candidates to answer. (0) comments

That's exactly the question that has faced USG this year, after they discovered a sizeable budget surplus that had gone unnoticed for years. The found funds were the result of an outdated bookkeeping system that rounded fractions of cents incorrectly over the course of many years, according to USG president Ryan McHardy, an 8th-semester political science major. The Office of Environmental Policy (OEP) is hoping to recycle 4,000 pounds of sneakers this year during its annual sneaker recycling program, which collects sneakers for reuse as track and playground surfaces, tennis courts and field turfs. The 4,000 pound objective is a goal well within reach, according to Dan Britton, sustainability coordinator for the OEP. (1) comment

There will be a blood drive hosted by the Red Cross and a bone marrow drive hosted by the organization Save Giovanni's Friends in the North Reading Room of Wilbur Cross this week from today until Friday, starting at 11 a.m. and lasting until 4:30 p.m. each day. (0) comments

Trash Can Catches Fire Outside Arjona

A trash can fire outside of Arjona began to spread to some leaves and grass around 3 p.m. Tuesday, but fire officials arrived quickly and put out the blaze before it could reach any cars or buildings. Fire Captain Fran Raola said fire was started accidentally. (0) comments
