After two seasons with the men's basketball team, Curtis Kelly has decided to finish his collegiate career somewhere outside of Storrs. In a decision expected for weeks, head coach Jim Calhoun announced Tuesday that Kelly, a sophomore from the Bronx, N.Y. (2) comments

Women's Basketball: Stellar Freshman Leaves Mark

GIMME MOORE

Not only has UConn women's basketball benefited from Maya Moore's presence on the court, but women's basketball on the whole may also be redefined by her. At least that is what several head coaches in the NCAA said after they faced her in the past year. Moore has already done enough to get the attention of the national media. (0) comments

Auriemma Wraps Up Season

Reflection, rivalry and recruits were all on Geno Auriemma's mind Tuesday afternoon. At a press conference in which the UConn women's coach was presented with the Naismith Women's Basketball Coach of the Year award, Auriemma was at times poignant, at times outrageous. (0) comments

Huskies Rally Behind Del Ponte

The UConn softball team was able to teach the Central Connecticut State a lesson - you have to play all seven innings. UConn head coach Karen Mullins put softball's re-entry rule to good use in yesterday's walk-off win over Central Connecticut State, using a total of 14 different players in various capacities to capture the victory. The Huskies' everyday lineup was set early on in the season and it's seen very little tweaking from Mullins since, except for some adjustments due to a couple of key injuries. (0) comments

Some events in sports are so astounding, so incredible that words just can't do them justice. That's how I feel about Saturday's Game 1 of the Phoenix Suns/San Antonio Spurs' opening round playoff series. It was an epic back-and-forth battle of wills that ended in double overtime, with the defending champion Spurs on top, 117-115. (0) comments

Before the current century rolled around, the enduring images of championship glory for Boston's sports teams were limited to a palette of Celtic-green and the black and gold of the Bruins. The footage of Larry Bird waving a towel courtside at the old Boston Garden, watching his teammates lock up another NBA title. (0) comments

To start or not to start, that is the question. With the New York Yankees off to a sluggish beginning to the 2008 season, the teams co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner made like his father Monday and used the press to stir up controversy and put down his general manager. (0) comments
