Softball: UMass'Balschmiter Shuts Down Huskies At Home

UConn's fortunes ran dry yesterday at the Connecticut Softball Stadium, as All-American pitcher Brandice Balschmiter of UMass brought the win streak to an abrupt end. The 6-foot-1 junior handed the Huskies their second no-hit loss of the season, a 6-0 decision to the Minutewomen. (0) comments

After weeks of speculation, negotiations and mixed reactions from the public, a proposed 10-game football series between UConn and Notre Dame has been dwindled down to six and has received approval to be finalized in the coming weeks. The University, in conjuncture with the Division of Athletics, and members of the Connecticut General Assembly announced Tuesday that a "mutual understanding" has been reached for further negotiation between the two schools. Each day this week, The Daily Campus will highlight one UConn football senior and his chances of being selected in this weekend's NFL Draft. On Saturday, April 26 at 3 p.m., hundreds of young men will gather around the television and watch their careers unfold. (0) comments

Virginia's Chris Long Chris Long is the best player in the 2008 NFL Draft, and the St. Louis Rams should jump at the opportunity to draft this Long after the Dolphins signed the other, Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long, with the first pick. The Rams have a need at defensive end and Long will solidify a defensive line that already has Pro Bowler Leonard Little and last year's first-round pick, Adam Carriker. (0) comments

The final stretch of the softball team's season hasn't been easy physically. When you add tests, homework and life in general to a schedule that requires a game basically every other day, things begin to wear on you a bit. Add being no-hit by Massachusetts All-American Brandice Balschmiter and the mental toll can be even greater. (0) comments

The NBA's Most Valuable Player award will be announced next month, and it's going to be a sad day for fans of Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets. That or Kobe Bryant haters. Bryant is without a doubt one of the best players of this decade, and that's something even his retractors have to admit. (18) comments
